Plastic Parts Prototyping
A picture may be worth a 1,000 words but a prototype sample is worth 1,000 insights. The relatively inexpensive step of protoyping a newly designed plastic part quickly reveals shortcomings in functionality, assembly and producibility.
There are a number of flexible ways to produce prototypes these days. Most common is 3D printing (sometimes called SLA) – a process by which a part is quickly produced by a laser-driven liquid crystallization process. The laser impinges on the surface of a bath of special liquid – crystallizing out an accurate piece part in a short period of time. Small numbers of parts can be economically produced this way to test concepts, functionality, form and fit.
